Climping

Early afternoon I parked up at Clumping Beach, a new birding site for me, and walked a little way east. There was very little passerine activity, and I only managed 16 sepcies for the trip, possibly a function of the high number of dogs and horses about. On the beach were about 12 Turnstones and a Little Egret. On a large stubble field there were c25 Ringed Plover and 5/6 Grey Plover along with a few Oystercatcher. A single Mediterranean Gull was later seen on the field. On the sea was a grebe, which I initially thought could be something interesting, but after consulting the guide I think it was a Great-crested Grebe. A little further up on the beach were a small group of gulls comprising Herring Gull, Common Gull and Black-headed Gull, and a single Sanderling was briefly amongst them. One gull stood out as having quite a hefty beak and a flat forehead which I thought could a candidate for Caspian Gull, but after consulting with Matt it's probably just a bulky Herring Gull. Final…
