ARC Pit, Dengemarsh Gully, Scotney GPs, Dungeness RSPB and the seawatching hide

A busy day started at the ARC Pit where the hides and main path is closed. I still managed 43 species in the hour I was there including Cuckoo, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, a Marsh Harrier and a Red Kite. Next stop was Dengemarsh beach again where a Ring Ouzal is still around, but this was a female I think. At least 6 Wheater were around the shingle and 2 Ravens were seeing off a Buzzard. The sea was dead, such a contrast from yesterday and highlighting just how good a day Big Wednesday was. Final stop of the morning was Scotney GPs where I was hoping to find the Little Gull, but all the gulls were roosting and I didn't spot it. As I was scanning Swifts started to stream by and grow in number with at least 50 seen. A Greenshank called as it flew across in front of me and landed on the bank. It was later seen with another Greenshank. Highlight of the visit though was a flock of c50 Yellow Wagtails that I stumbled across as I walked down the track to the farm, many in their stunning bright yellow plumage. Cliff pointed out on twitter that one has a white neck, which could make it one of the scarcer sub species.

The afternoon started at Dungness RSPB where major work has taken place since I last visited over a year ago. All hides are closed but a part of the bank around Burrowes Pit has been removed to allow viewing, and Scott Hide has been removed altogether. Highlight here was three year ticks, all recorded from the ramp at Hookers Pits; a booming Bittern, calling Bearded Tits and 3 Hobbies hunting. 2 Swifts, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Marsh Harriers and a Snipe were also noted.

Final stop was the seawatching hide where Martin was just leaving as things had quitened down. I almost certainly saw a bonxie, but it was incredibly distant, and I definitiley did see a Red-throated Diver. I was joined by Surrey-based Mike, but between us all we could manage was a few commic terns.
