Amberley Wildbrooks

I managed to get myself out of bed for a pre-work trip and it was worth the while. A Cuckoo was calling from the swamp area and 3 Willow Warbler are still singing, a good sign they'll all be hanging around to breed. 2 Raven passed overhead. Not much on the swamp just a handful of Teal. Bird of the day was a Little Ringed Plover. I spotted a black and white dot on the large pool in front of the wet wood and was expecting to see a Pied Wagtail when I set my scope, but was delighted to see the LRP. It seemed conscious of my presence and very soon flew off. In the wet wood was my first Whitethroat of the year. Seeing this one today has convinced me that bird I'd seen at Hail's View yesterday was a Whitethroat. Still no Nightingale, Sedge Warbler or Grasshopper Warbler, all of which I'd recorded by this time last year.
