Amberley Wildbrooks

This afternoon under the castle were some 87 Black-tailed Godwits, 33 Coots, 10 Shoveler, a few Gadwall, large numbers of Teal and Wigeon, and a single Common Gull. On the eastern side I counted of flock of c120 Canaga Geese grazing, amongst which were a couple of Greylag Geese. There wasn't the excitement on the river today as yesterday, just a few Teal and Wigeon, plus a pair on a Kayak. I bumped into a friendly gentleman surveying the eastern block who thought he had seen a Wheatear! Surveying from the wet wood I noted a Marsh Harrier, 2 Buzzards, a Kestrel, and 2 Merlin. Both of the Merlins were fairly distant and I struggled with an ID, but based on size and plumage I am confident there were two individuals. Other sighting included 4 Grey Herons, a Little Egret, 9 Magpies and a Raven. There were a few noticable absences today including the winter thrushes and Meadow Pipit.
