Hail's View

It was an unexpectedly wet start to an early morning visit to Hails View before work, although it was fairly warm. The rain slowly eased and I managed an hour or so of decent birdwatching. A Barn Owl was quartering over the grass first thing, and a large flock of Greylag Geese came over noisily. As it got lighter there was a lot of passerine activity with many calls and birds seen on the move that I couldn't identify. Noted were Meadow Pipits, Reed Buntings, quite a lot of Chiffchaffs, Stonechats, a Pied Wagtail, a single Blackcap, a large flock or noisy Goldfinches, and probably Siskins. There was a short period of intense hirundine movement with a few hundred House Martins moving south along the river and a few Swallows about too. Ravens were heard and seen. I recorded a total of 32 species which is a good count for a short visit to this site at the moment.
