Waltham Brooks

The weather was unsettled today but when it looked clear I visited Waltham Brooks, only to get caught out by a heavy downpour and strong winds. I was rewarded for battling through, though, because as I stood by the river about 9 Swifts were feeding over it, at times coming in very low over my head. Across the river were 3 Lapwing and 2 Redshanks looking as if they were guarding nests from the many corvids around. A Grasshopper Warbler reeled for a brief moment but then wasn't heard again. I also spotted a single House Martin, only my second sighting this year. Another notable observation was 2 Shoveler on the water.
