Arun Valley

Six hours social distancing in the Arun Valley this morning where Chiffchaffs were heard everywhere. Starting at Pulborough the 2 Little Gulls reported by Matt  were seen from Winpenny and my first Blackcap of the year at the top of Green Lane. At Amberley Wildbrooks the highlights were displaying Lapwings, singing Redshank and 5 Little Egrets. Along Greatham Rd in a flooded field there were 5 Mandarins (3 stunning males).  At Widney Brooks the 2 Little Gulls were seen again distantly as well as 2 Great Crested Grebes, 6 Tufted Ducks, 4 Redshanks, and the usual cast of wildfowl. No sign of the male Pochard seen here recently. At Waltham Brooks there were Stonechats and Reed Buntings, and the water held mainly Teal. Final stop was Hails View where the 2 Little Gulls were seen again (I think they were the same ones based on the plumage patterns on their heads).
