Amberley Wildbrooks, Waltham Brooks and Hails View

Some great birding watching in the Arun Valley today starting at the still very flooded Wey South Path in Amberley where I was pleasantly surprised to see a pair of Avocet in the field under the castle. Also here were Wigeon, Teal, 2 Shelduck, and plenty of Coot. At least 2 Chiffchaffs were singing here too. over the other side of the path were a few hundred Common Gulls, loads of ducks, and displaying Lapwing. Other notable recordings were singing Cetti's Warbler and Reed Bunting. I think I heard a Little Grebe singing too but couldn't be certain.

Next stop was Waltham Brooks where there were at least a dozen Tufted Ducks on the main reserve. Across the bridge on Widney Brooks the drake Pochard is still present along with 3 Little Grebes and a Great Crested Grebe, my first record of this bird at Waltham. One was seen at Pulborough earlier today so perhaps it was the same one.  Other notable sightings were 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, singing Cetti's Warbler, Chiffchaff and Skylark, and a Sparrowhawk.

Final stop was Hails View and Black Wood where the water doesn't seem to want to budge. Here again a Chiffchaff singing. On the water were loads of ducks, with Pintail being in high numbers, and a Marsh Harrier was seen briefly.
