Waltham Brooks

This post is just to report the findings on a ringed Great Black-backed Gull found at Waltham Brooks today, having received the history from the Portland Gulls ringing project. The bird was ringed in June 2012. It was first seen at Omaha Beach in France in August 2013, then in Guernsey in October 2013, then not seen again for three years when it was spotted on the Otter Estuary in Devon in February 2016, then again soon after on the Axe Estuary in Devon in September of the same year. Another 3 years missing and it turned up at Waltham Brooks today. Where has it been disappearing for three years at a time? It seems from the Portland Gulls blog, here, that the ringed birds tend to end up on the north coast of France, Guernsey and on Devon estuaries. Clearly, English Channel dwellers.

Portland Gulls' blog post on this sighting is here.
