I’m pleased I made the decision to go to Bignor Hill this evening, probably the first time I’ve been there since I went as a kid once or twice. It was only a short walk, from the car park up to the radio masts and back round, but there were migrant birds everywhere. The counts are very rough and only include birds I saw, and I am sure there were many more. I counted 7 Wheatears, 5 Whinchats, 4 Redstarts and at least 26 Spotted Flycatchers. Every tree I looked at seemed to have Spotted Flycatchers in, and I would be surprised if there weren’t the odd Pied Flycatcher amongst them, although I didn’t spot one.

Also around were the odd Whitethroat, Blackcap and Willow Warbler, 2 Ravens, about 20 Swallows moving over, and at least 3 calling Tawny Owls.
